Dear BCS Families,
I attended the production of Dear Edwina on Wednesday afternoon and was proud of our students’ performance. It was great to see the hard work and preparation pay off. There of course were a few mistakes and forgotten lines but it was an amazing play! Mrs. Chinn attended Thursday evening and we compared notes Friday morning. Her experience was a little different than mine. Where some parts may have not went as well as the students wanted them to go on Wednesday, Mrs. Chinn described a near perfect performance on Thursday. It was great to hear of the improvement and see how practice and perseverance can pay off!
Friday I had the opportunity to visit classrooms and I asked the students in the play how everything went the night before. All of them told me how much they had improved in one day and how the performance that night would be even better! When they found out I was attending Friday, they were excited to show me how much they improved and I was excited to see the improvement with my own eyes. I do have to say, however, I did not think Wednesday’s performance was bad at all, I think the students were harder on themselves!
Friday night’s performance was outstanding! It was evident that in two short days our students worked hard at identifying the mistakes, problem solving to make it better and going out again to put on a great show! I know the parents are proud and our staff is too! Thank you to the students and parents for again making this year’s performance a great success! We can once again take a lesson out of our students’ playbook: follow our passion, persevere, and perform each day!
Please join us on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 for our first twitter chat. VILLAGE FAIR
The Village Fair is coming up soon (5/31-6/3). This is usually a very exciting time for our students and they want to head to the fair right away! When you are planning your trip to the fair, please remember that we are still in session for school; kids have work to do, tests to take, and projects to finish Also, please remember that some of the projects are completed in a group and students are relying on their classmates to be there during the school day to complete the project or present.
DRESS CODE REMINDER
As the weather gets warmer and shorts, skirts, and tank tops come out, please take a moment to review the dress code with your child (http://www.bcsonline.info/Documents/2011-2012StudentHandbookPlanner.pdf ) on page 9 of the student handbook. Please help your child to remember that shorts/skirts must be below the child’s fingertips and tank tops must have wide enough straps so that undergarments cannot be seen. If a student is not wearing the appropriate clothing to meet dress code, a call will be placed to a parent to have an appropriate item of clothing brought up for the student to change into. Thank you for helping!

BCS MEDIA CENTER NEWS
The Media Center is preparing for the end of the year, and it’s a big job for us this year – we have to pack up EVERYTHING in order to move EVERYTHING out of the room to get our new carpet this summer! We’re very excited, but we have a TON of packing to do, and it includes the books!
This means…
• Starting today, the checkout limit for students is 2 books at a time. If they have 2 or more out, they won’t be able to check out any more until some come back.
• The last day for checkouts will be Friday, May 18. After this day, we’ll be promoting our growing eBook collection!
• All books are due on Monday, May 21.
• Finally, we will again be holding the Least-Amount-of-Overdues Contest, with homerooms competing against each other by grade level. The homeroom in your grade level with the least amount of materials still out will be treated with a movie of your choice and treats in the Media Center on a day of your choosing during the last couple of weeks of school. The contest will end at the end of the school day on May 21…so encourage all of your students to get in their books before then!
• The Media Center will still be open for computer use past the books’ due date, but note that we will begin placing books in boxes the week after Memorial Day.
